The NCAA has approved a six week plan for teams to prepare for the season. Teams that play their first game on September 5 will begin required workouts on July 13, enhanced training begins on July 24, followed by a normal four week preseason camp that begins on August 7. Schools that play on August 29 will begin required workouts on July 6.
The two week enhanced training period allows for up to 20 hours of athletic activities per week. This includes one hour each day for walk-through practices (up to 6 hours per week), film review & meetings (up to 6 hours per week), weight training & conditioning (up to 8 hours per week). Players must receive two days off during the 14 day period.
Teams will look to take advantage of the extra time to install their playbooks after most teams either missed spring ball entirely or only got a few practices before the COVID-19 shutdown. Teams with transitioning coaching staffs will need to make the most of this time to get their players up to speed and iron out any kinks.
