Nicholaus Iamaleava: Scouting Report
Size
Nicholaus Iamaleava is a tall quarterback prospect with a frame that can continue to add weight. He still needs to fill out, but has added strength and should continue to get thicker in a college weight program. Iamaleava will have no problem standing in the pocket and scanning the defense at the next level, he has excellent size for the position.
Release/Mechanics
Iamaleava has improved his throwing mechanics significantly over the course of his career to get the most out of his raw talent. His footwork is efficient and he maintains a good base, generating power from the ground up. Iamaleava has tightened up his release, speeding up his delivery and adding consistency. He has a good release on the move and is effective throwing off platform.
Arm
Iamaleava has great arm strength with the ability to make throws that few quarterbacks can match. He has developed good touch and now has the ability to take something off when needed. With this ability and improved mechanics, Iamaleava has become a more accurate quarterback. He has the physical skills to make incredible throws that only the best quarterbacks are capable of.
Mobility
Iamaleava is a good athlete who can evade pressure and make plays with his legs. He is crafty evading defenders, escaping negative plays even when he appears to be wrapped up. Iamaleava does need to be careful with the football when evading pressure as he does hold it too far from his body at times. Nonetheless, his mobility has to be game-planned for and will put stress on the defense.
Intangibles
Iamaleava is a confident quarterback, which shows up in his film and demeanor. He does not give up on plays, but instead trusts in his ability to make something happen for his team. His teammates appear to follow his lead and feed off of his confidence. Iamaleava’s work ethic has shown up in his improvement over the course of his career.
Projection
Nicholaus Iamaleava is an excellent talent who continues to hone his talents. He has the work ethic and confidence to get the most out of his physical ability. Iamaleava has all of the physical tools college coaches are looking for in a quarterback and should become one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
