Jaylin Davies: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Jaylin Davies committed to Oregon, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Jaylin Davies is a quick cornerback who has good cover skills. He has good hip flexibility and is able to mirror receivers well. He then has great quickness and burst and is able to close on the play quickly. Davies does not have great top end speed but has the technique and quickness to cover faster receivers. Davies has good feet and is able to change directions well to minimize the receivers ability to create separation. Davies does a good job of using his long arms to play through the receivers hands and breakup passes. He has good balls skills and body control making him a good defender in jump ball situations. He has adequate height but is very thin and needs to add strength to take on stronger receivers. Davies may need to add weight but he plays very physical and does a good job of jamming and rerouting receivers. He is a willing tackler who is not afraid of contact. Adding strength will only enhance his physicality, but he needs to be able to maintain his quickness and flexibility with the added weight. Jaylin Davies has the tools to be a cover corner at the college level who can be a starter on a top tier power five team.
