Trejon Williams: Scouting Report

S Rank: —
Team: Oregon
Class: 2022
Size

Trejon Williams has average height for a college safety. He does have a long frame that should continue to add good weight as he matures. Williams has already added strength and could play safety in any scheme. Williams has the look of a player who can cover, be a center fielder or play closer to the line of scrimmage.

Athleticism

Williams is a good overall athlete who definitely has a bounce in his step. He has the speed to cover ground downfield and keep receivers in front of him. Williams has good acceleration and burst, closing on plays quickly. He has the ability to change directions efficiently when reacting to the offensive player.

Coverage Skills

Williams covers well, particularly for a safety. He has the ability to man-up with receivers on the outside or can play slot receivers from his safety spot. Williams has good feet and solid flexibility in his hips as he changes directions. He shows good range as a deep safety with a good feel for where the play is designed to go.

Ball Skills

Williams does a good job of recognizing when the ball is coming, turning his head to locate it and then adjusting to make a play quickly. He has good hands and can make the interception, but also show impressive reach when deflecting passes away. His instinctual ability to find the ball helps him make plays and avoid penalties on under-throws. Williams will be a play-maker in the secondary who can turn the momentum of a game.

Run Support / Tackling

Williams is a good tackler, who wraps up well and drives through the runner to finish the play. He understands gaps well and takes good angles to the football, putting himself in good position to make the tackle. Williams is a hitter who can punish ball carriers, but is more focused on getting the ball carrier down above all else.

Projection

Trejon Williams is an athletic safety who has the cover skills to play multiples spots in the secondary. He is a good tackler with the instincts to find the ball and make the play. Williams is a very complete player who will develop into a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
