The Hurry Up: 8/17 to 8/23

Defensive end prospect Kelvin Gilliam has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. He announced his decision on CBS Sports HQ earlier this evening. The Highland Springs, VA star chose the Sooners over offers from Penn State and South Carolina, among others. Gilliam is currently ranked as a Top 150 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.

Gilliam is the fourth defensive lineman to commit to the Sooners with all four rated four stars or better. Oklahoma now has commitments from 14 players, with eight of them rated four stars or higher. Offensive line prospect Geno VanDeMark has committed to the Michigan State Spartans. He announced his decision on twitter earlier this evening. The Montvale, NJ star chose Michigan State over offers from Rutgers and Nebraska, among others. VanDeMark is currently ranked as a Top 350 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.

VanDeMark is the third offensive lineman to commit to the Spartans and the first rated four stars or better. Michigan State now has commitments from 13 players, with VanDeMark becoming the first rated four stars. New Head Coach Mel Tucker is attempting to rebuild the Spartans and this is a big step towards that goal. For our scouting report on VanDeMark click here.

Safety prospect Ahmari Harvey has committed to the Auburn Tigers. He announced his decision on CBS Sports HQ this afternoon. The Tallahassee, FL star chose Auburn over offers from Florida State and Texas A&M, among others. Harvey is currently ranked as a Top 200 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.

Harvey is the second safety to commit to the Tigers and the first rated as four star or better. Auburn is adding some nice talent to the back end of the secondary in this recruiting class. Star freshman running back Marshawn Lloyd is out for the season with a knee injury. Lloyd was a fantastic recruit in the 2020 recruiting class and had been turning heads in practice this fall. The Gamecocks running game was lackluster in 2019 and Lloyd was expected to be a major part of reviving the run game. We had high expectations for Lloyd and featured him in our freshman spotlight.

With Lloyd out, South Carolina will turn to sophomore running back Kevin Harris and junior college transfer Zaquandre White. Harris flashed a little in 2019 but has not had consistent playing time. White should be more advanced than most newcomers as he has played at the junior college level. Neither player is expected to produce at the level Lloyd was expected to and this is a major hit to the South Carolina offense.

Quarterback prospect Jalen Milroe has flipped to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Milroe announced his commitment on twitter earlier tonight. The Katy, TX star flipped to Alabama from Texas. Milroe is a Top 100 prospect nationally according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Milroe is now the quarterback in Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class. The Tide class now has 19 total commitments with 15 of them rated four star prospects or higher. Milroe is the eighth highest rated commitment in the Alabama class. This flip comes on the heels of Texas landing a commitment from 2022 quarterback Quinn Ewers, which may have contributed to Milroe’s decision. For our scouting report on Milroe click here.
