Ahmari Harvey: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Ahmari Harvey is uncommitted but is choosing between Auburn, Florida State and Texas A&M. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Ahmari Harvey is an instinctual safety with excellent ball skills. He is not a tall safety and will need to add weight in college but appears to have room to add the needed bulk. He has good instincts playing over the top and tracks the ball very well when it is thrown, finding the football, timing his jump and making the play on the ball. Harvey has decent speed and compliments it with excellent burst and explosion. He changes directions well and has good acceleration to close on the play quickly. He is an excellent leaper which allows him to take on bigger pass catchers down the field. Harvey has the ability to play in man coverage against receivers in the slot if needed, which adds diversity to his skill set.

Against the run, Harvey is an aggressive tackler who hits much bigger than his size would indicate. His instincts translate here as well, allowing him to find the football and take good angles to make the play. At times he does put his head down when he hits and will need to keep his head up consistently. Harvey has the speed to play safety, but could stand to improve in this area to elevate his game to another level. Harvey is not a big safety, but he does play with the requisite toughness for the position. Overall Harvey has the instincts, ball skills and striking ability to be a quality safety. Ahmari Harvey will be a playmaker in the secondary and should become a starter on a power five team.
