Star Performance: Zonovan Knight

NC State‘s Zonovan Knight has established himself as one of the top running backs in the country over his first two seasons. He ran for over 700 yards in each of those seasons averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Now in his third season with the Wolfpack, Knight put on a show Thursday night in a 45 – 0 win over USF.

Knight split carries with Ricky Person, but made the most of his touches against USF. He used his excellent vision to pick his way through the defense and made subtle moves to elude defenders and gain extra yardage. As would be expected from a running back with the nickname Bam, Knight ran through would be tacklers and regularly dragged defenders for extra yardage, turning in an excellent performance.

Knight ran for 163 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and caught 2 passes for 15 yards. Averaging a first down every time he ran the ball and pounding away at the defense in the process. With Ricky Person available to keep Knight from having to carry the entire load, he was able to stay fresh and make big plays throughout the game. That duo will set the tone for the NC State offense this season.

The game was never in doubt, but it was good to see Knight turn in an explosive performance showing that he is ready to build on his 2020 season. The competition will get tougher but Knight has the skill set to succeed against better defenses and carry the load for the NC State offense. Knight is already a star, but he showed on Thursday night he could be on the way to bigger things.
