Jaquez Smith: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Jaquez Smith committed to Indiana, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.
Jaquez Smith is a strong receiver with good hands and a knack for getting open. He has good size and a well build physique at the receiver position. He displays a good catch radius and the ability to catch the ball naturally. Smith has good body control allowing him to adjust to throws that are not on targer. He is an advanced route runner for a high school prospect and creates good separation out of his breaks. Smith has the strength to fight through jams, break tackles after the catch and to be a sound blocker on the perimeter.
Smith is not a burner, but he has good acceleration and enough speed to threaten the defense. He can get downfield for long pass plays or catch a short pass and find a seam to make a big play. Smith will need to work on his flexibility and elusiveness at the next level to help him pick up yardage after the catch. Overall, Smith is a reliable receiver who runs good routes and has excellent hands. Jaquez Smith will be a starter for a power five team, who can move the chains regularly and be a productive outside receiver.
