Dallas Turner: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Dallas Turner committed to Alabama, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Dallas Turner possesses an excellent frame for an edge prospect. He is a long, lean, and muscular player who is an imposing figure with the room to carry an additional 20 or so pounds. Turner has elite quickness off the ball and often leaves tackles blocking air. His athleticism is off the charts as he displays excellent closing speed, flexibility, and natural mobility. He generally plays with good pad level and leverage allowing him to maximize his physical advantage. Although his quickness generally wins the day, he is not simply a speed rusher, who understands how to shut down his pass rush and pursue quarterbacks as they attempt to escape the pocket. He displays a nice shoulder dip and bend around the edge as a pass rusher and utilizes a spin move on occasion. Turner does have an understanding of hand usage but he will need to develop some pass rush moves and counters to be successful at the next level. Adding additional weight should help with setting the edge as well, where sometimes Turner is not as strong as you would like. Against the zone read, Turner demonstrates the discipline and positioning needed to be a successful defender. He is a hard hitting tackler who will be feared in this regard, and effective at getting ball carriers to the ground. Dallas Turner is an elite edge prospect and should develop into one of the best pass rushers in college football.
