Naquan Brown: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Naquan Brown flipped his commitment to Pittsburgh, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Naquan Brown is not the tallest or biggest edge prospect but has the frame to add plenty of good bulk to his frame. This is a player with a great get off and athleticism that can make his way all over the field. Brown has an excellent motor and is great in pursuit. Despite having limited length, Brown does a good job of keeping his arms extended to keep blockers away from his body. He already possesses an inside/outside swim and rip move, and displays an intuitive understanding of how to set up his pass rush moves. Brown plays with good, not great, pad level which allows him to get underneath blockers at the line of scrimmage.

When he is not able to get to the quarterback he does a good job of jumping the passing lanes and batting balls down. In run support, Brown is surprisingly polished at setting the edge and even more effective when asked to shoot gaps to make plays. He is a strong and sure tackler who makes plays with some impressive authority. The epitome of a disruptive force, Brown is an impactful player against the pass and run. Although his ceiling is somewhat limited due to his height and size, Naquan Brown possesses many of the coveted tools you look for in an edge player, he will be a very good player at the collegiate level.
