Camar Wheaton: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Camar Wheaton to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Camar Wheaton has adequate size and the frame to add a decent amount of additional bulk. Wheaton is a great athlete that has an excellent burst and the long speed to break big plays. He displays better than expected tackle breaking ability, and is able to maintain his balance when defenders try to bring him down. That being said, we would not expect Wheaton to break as many tackles at the next level as he will elude defenders with his lateral agility. He possesses an excellent jump cut that makes him difficult to square up in the hole.

Wheaton shows very good vision and patience for a high school runner. He allows his blocks to set up and then hits the open rushing lanes. Wheaton is also able to hit the cutback to break off long runs, an innate ability most great runners have. He displays a natural pass catching ability out of the backfield that allows him to be a versatile threat. There is a tendency to bounce runs to the outside too quickly and we would like to see Wheaton finish more runs for scores in the open field. Camar Wheaton is an excellent running back prospect that will be a big play threat as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Should be one of the best all purpose backs in the country.
