AJ Duffy: Scouting Report
Size
AJ Duffy has good size for a quarterback and has filled out well. He has the frame to continue to add good weight and should be a sturdy college player. He has above average height at the position and should not have difficulty seeing the field from the pocket.
Release/Mechanics
Duffy has a quick release that has little wasted motion. He does throw with some effort at times which causes him to follow through hard to his left. Duffy has sound footwork, but will need some refinement in college. He can tend to get flat footed when he waits too long in the pocket.
Arm
Duffy has good arm strength and displays great accuracy when his mechanics are in tact. He throws the ball well with touch to all levels of the field. He can muscle the ball through coverage in the middle of the field or to the sideline. His accuracy and touch mix well and Duffy is able to place the ball in the holes in the coverage.
Mobility
Duffy shows good functional mobility in the pocket. He also has good burst and wiggle to pick up yardage as a runner. He is an efficient runner who takes good angles and wastes little motion. Duffy is not a dynamic running threat but he can hurt the defense with his feet and can run the option when needed.
Intangibles
Duffy does a good job of reading the defense and finding gaps in the coverage. He throws the football with anticipation, releasing the ball on time and helping to throw his receivers open. He plays with toughness and poise when under duress.
Projection
AJ Duffy is a smart player who can make plays throwing the ball to all areas of the football field or with his legs when needed. He has a lot of the tools college teams covet and will be a starter at an upper echelon power five program.
