Ty Simpson: Scouting Report
Size
Ty Simpson has slightly above average height for a quarterback and has some room to fill out his frame. He will not be a big quarterback but Simpson should fill out enough to endure the rigors of the college game. Size may not be a strength for Simpson, but it’s not an area for concern either.
Release/Mechanics
Simpson had a tight release and gets the ball out of his hands quickly when he finds an open receiver. His footwork is inconsistent at times and he will need to focus on being consistent with his feet in the pocket. Simpson does a good job of throwing from various platforms and is able to create torque when he is off balance.
Arm
Simpson has a strong arm and can get the ball downfield even when he is off balance. He shows good zip on intermediate and underneath throws and has the ability to stretch the field vertically. He is a fairly accurate passer, especially when his footwork is sound and he throws on balance.
Mobility
Simpson has good acceleration and is able to escape the pocket even as the defense closes in. He has good speed and can make big plays with his feet. Simpson is slippery when on the run and has the ability to make defenders miss and pick up extra yardage.
Intangibles
Simpson shows the patience to go through his progressions when he has time in the pocket. He does a good job of keeping his eyes down field when he is on the move and is crafty enough to get the ball to a teammate even when under extreme pressure.
Projection
Ty Simpson is an entertaining quarterback who has the ability to make big plays with his arm and his legs. He has an innate ability to make plays and the tools to develop into an all conference type of performer in college.
