Jyaire Brown: Scouting Report
Size
Jyaire Brown has above average height for the cornerback position. He is slightly on the thinner side right now, but has the length and frame to continue to add good weight. Brown will fill out and add strength as he matures. He will be a tough physical match-up on the outside for receivers to contend with.
Athleticism
Brown shows good athleticism on tape. It starts with good speed to stay with receivers downfield. He also displays the acceleration to get up to top speed quickly and stick with receivers off the line. Additionally, Brown changes directions effectively and is fairly smooth as he transitions.
Hips/Technique
Brown has the ability to play in press coverage, with the length to jam receivers and the fluid hips to turn and run in coverage. He sometimes loses ground out of the receivers breaks, but has the makeup speed to close the window quickly. Brown also plays with good spatial awareness, feeling where receivers are around him in zones and closing off throwing lanes effectively. He is still a bit raw in his technique but has the ability to play zone or man at the next level.
Ball Skills
Brown uses his length well to get his hands on the football in coverage. He shows good extension to play the ball and is able to reach around receivers to knock the ball away. Brown is effective in jump-ball situations and will play through the receivers hands to break up the pass. He anticipates well and is able to find the ball quickly when in coverage, allowing him time to make the play.
Physicality/Tackling
Brown is very physical with receivers at the line of scrimmage. He does a good job of disrupting the route and the timing of the pass. Brown does not shy away from contact and is aggressive challenging screen passes and running plays. He will need to be more consistent with his form as a tackler in college but is an asset in run support.
Projection
Jyaire Brown has a good blend of size and athleticism at cornerback. He has shown the ability to help his team in a variety of areas defensively. Brown has the physical tools and instincts to develop into a starter for an upper echelon power five team.
