Preston Stone: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Preston Stone to give you a scouting report based on his film.
Preston Stone is a playmaker at the quarterback position. He has quick feet and excellent balance which allows him to make plays when the pocket breaks down around him. Stone has a good mix of speed and elusiveness combined with an innate ability to find open space. He is not a burner per se, but has a good feel for the game around him and is able to make plays on the fly. He does a good job of keeping his eyes downfield when on the move. Stone is not just a quarterback who can make plays on the move but also has the ability to beat the defense from the pocket.
Stone is an accurate passer who does a good job of picking apart the defense. He has a good feel for the passing game and is decisive when throwing from the pocket. Stone throws a catchable ball with touch and timing. He has above average arm strength and is able to stretch the field vertically as well. Stone, like most young playmakers, does take chances with the football but will need to be more careful against college defenses. He has a good release but needs to be consistent with his footwork, especially on the move. Overall, Stone has the creative ability and accuracy to be a difference maker. Preston Stone will be a good college quarterback who gives defenses headaches with his arm and feet.
