Marcus Burris: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Marcus Burris to give you a scouting report based on his film.
Marcus Burris possesses a nice frame with good length and height for the position. He continues to add good muscle mass every season and still has room to fill out some more. Burris has a good first step at his size and should be considered an above average to good athlete for a player his size. Burris plays with excellent effort and his motor is evident on film when watching him pursue. He shows an understanding of the game and how offenses are trying to attack his defense, demonstrating discipline on slip screens, zone-reads, and quick passing plays. He often gets his hands on attempted passes to break them up at the line of scrimmage.
Burris makes good usage of his hands against the run and in pass rushing situations. He likes to attack the shoulder of blockers and executes a rip move to get past offensive lineman. He will need to add more to his repertoire as a pass rusher but he displays promise in this regard. We would like to see Burris maximize his physical advantage by playing with lower pad level, and consistency in this aspect of his game will need improvement. Burris plays a 3-4 defensive end and should transition into the same role, or play a three technique in a 4-3, and develop into a consistent power five starter.
