Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Kalen King is a complete cornerback prospect. He has average height for the position but has good length and packs a punch. King has good strength and technique in man coverage, showing the ability to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage, redirect and then mirror them in tight coverage. He has excellent short area quickness, changing directions suddenly and getting back up to speed in an instant. King has an excellent ability to track the ball and the body control and positioning to give him the best chance to come down with the ball in contested situations. He has good technique and takes very few missteps, making him difficult to shake in coverage.
King is a good run defender on the edge. He is quick to recognize the play and difficult to block in space. King delivers a blow on impact and is an effective tackler who makes his presence felt. There are few flaws in his game, King may not have the long speed some of the best defensive backs have but he is fast enough to play the position at a high level. Overall, King is a talented cornerback who excels in coverage but is capable against the run as well. Kalen King has the ability to play in coverage on an island and will be a starter on an upper echelon power five team.
