Ohio State BuckeyesRecruit Scouting Reports

Jayden Ballard: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Jayden Ballard is committed to Ohio State, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Jayden Ballard is a big play threat at any time. He has good height and a frame to keep getting stronger as he matures. He has already added good weight and is a physical mismatch on the perimeter. Ballard has excellent long speed to get behind defenders and finish plays with touchdowns. He shows good explosiveness off the line and can beat press coverage to get downfield quickly. Ballard does an excellent job or tracking the ball, adjusting to the throw, and shows good hands and concentration to finish the catch. His size, body control and leaping ability allow him to overpower defensive backs in contested situations.

Ballard is not just a big guy who can run, he shows good agility as a route runner and should develop into an advanced route runner. He see’s the field well and uses his speed and explosiveness to find space to pick up yards after the catch. Ballard’s strength and size make him a solid blocker on the perimeter as well. He will need to be more elusive after the catch, he needs to make defenders miss more efficiently to help pick up extra yardage. Overall, Ballard is a complete receiver who can dominate on the outside. Jayden Ballard has the speed, size and skill to become a top receiver in college football who could start anywhere in the country.
