JC Latham: A Quick Look At What The Tide Are Getting

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, JC Latham committed to Alabama, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

JC Latham is a tremendous prospect with good height and length for the tackle position. Latham possesses elite athleticism for an offensive linemen and it shows in both his run blocking and pass protection. This is as good of a burst at the snap as you will see for an offensive linemen. Latham is quick to get to his responsibility and gives defenders little time to react. He is very fluid when pulling and moves quickly to identify defenders in space. Due to his elite athleticism, Latham is able to get to the second level of the defense and create additional rushing lanes. There are, however, times when he fails to maintain his pad level or stops driving his feet quicker than you would like. He is not the nastiest road grader but certainly finishes plenty of blocks with authority.

Latham will need to add bulk and strength to his frame but this should come in a college strength and conditioning program. As a pass blocker Latham plays with flexibility and natural knee bend. He is patient enough to allow blockers to commit to a pass rush before hitting them with a quick and powerful punch. Latham is very light on his feet and takes his drop and slide steps with ease. He has been well coached and his technique is advanced for his age. There is no denying that JC Latham is an elite tackle prospect who looks like a blindside protector all the way. With some added strength and bulk he should blossom into an elite left tackle.
