Jamier Johnson: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Jamier Johnson committed to Texas, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Jamier Johnson is a natural player in the secondary. He has adequate height at cornerback but will need to add strength at the college level. He does have good length which helps him against bigger receivers. He is very smooth in his movements and appears to be comfortable changing directions and mirroring receivers. He has good speed and quickness and is athletic enough to cover most receivers man to man. Johnson also shows the instincts and range to be a good player in zone coverage. He is a willing tackler in run support, though he needs to get stronger, he shows the toughness needed to be good against the run. Johnson will need to get a lot stronger at the next level which could cost him some flexibility and quickness as he gains the weight. Overall, he is a quality cover cornerback who plays bigger than he is. Jamier Johnson will be a good college cornerback who is a starter at the power five level.
