J. Michael Sturdivant: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, J. Michael Sturdivant committed to California, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.
J Michael Sturdivant is a big receiver with big play ability. He has good height and length with the frame to add strength in college. He has the size to bully smaller defensive backs and knows how to use his body in contested situations. Sturdivant has good long speed, especially once he gets moving, his long strides eat up turf at a deceptively fast speed. He tracks the ball very well and has the ball skills to make the catch. Sturdivant has a knack for finding extra yards after the catch, he appears to race past defenders who originally appeared to have the angle on him.
Sturdivant does need to become more explosive and accelerate better off the line so he can get up to speed faster. He also needs to improve his route running so he can create better separation underneath. Overall, Sturdivant is a big receiver who has good speed and can make big plays in bunches. J Michael Sturdivant will be a dangerous split end at the college level, who can be an all conference player at a power five school.
