Caleb Williams: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Caleb Williams to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Caleb Williams is an electric quarterback prospect. He has good speed and explosiveness, he is one of the best athletes at the quarterback position. He also has a thick build with good strength which helps him run out of arm tackles. Williams uses his feet and strength to escape tacklers like a magician on the football field. He can turn a lost play into a long gain at any point in the game. Williams has a strong arm and delivers the ball with velocity from the pocket and while on the move. Williams has enough arm strength to throw from different angles and without getting his feet underneath him.

Williams plays with a special confidence, seeming to know that players cannot tackle him or keep up with him. Williams does need to clean up his footwork and mechanics to get the most out of his ability. His accuracy is erratic at this stage and will need work, but better mechanics will help the accuracy improve. Williams needs to do a better job anticipating throws rather than waiting for receivers to be completely free. Overall, Williams has rare size and athleticism and an excellent arm. Caleb Williams will be a star at the college level and one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
