George Wilson: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, George Wilson committed to South Carolina, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

George Wilson is a very athletic player with long arms and a broad shouldered frame that should fill out in a collegiate training program. Wilson is very explosive off the ball and blows by defenders as a stand up edge defender. This is a very fluid athlete who has the coveted flexibility to bend around the edge as a pass rusher. Wilson is able to slip between blockers regularly but also shows a willingness to be physical and fight through double teams. Although his game relies on mostly raw athleticism at this stage, Wilson shows some awareness and discipline when defending zone read looks, quick passing plays, and on draw plays. He needs to add plenty of weight and strength at the next level but demonstrates an understanding of how to set the edge against the run. Wilson uses his hands to keep blockers at bay and disengage, however, there is plenty of room to improve his technique in this regard. As a pass rusher he relies mostly on a speed rush and must develop some pass rush moves and counters to maximize his potential. His ability to convert speed to power flashes on film and should get better as he gets stronger. George Wilson is a very athletic player with an excellent frame and potential to develop into a high level pass rusher at an elite power five program.
