Garrett Dellinger: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Garrett Dellinger committed to LSU, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Garrett Dellinger is a tall player that has the look of a tackle prospect. He will need to continue to add bulk and strength to his frame, especially in his lower half before he will be effective at the college level. Dellinger is a truly nasty and relentless blocker who plays with excellent foot drive as he keeps his feet moving through the whistle. He maximizes his power and throws smaller defenders around on film consistently. Pad level is not an issue for Dellinger as he plays with excellent leverage, a quality that is often lacking in even the best prep prospects. He is not particularly nimble but also not a liability in space or pass protection. We would characterize his footwork as above average for a player his size. There is still plenty to clean up in Dellinger’s game from a technique and skill standpoint. He must show better hand placement as he as a tendency to grab too much jersey outside the shoulder pads. Dellinger does not possess the most natural kick step and must improve his footwork in pass protection. There is a lot to like in his game but also plenty to improve. Expect Garrett Dellinger to need 2-3 years to improve his technique and add necessary size and strength to his frame, eventually developing into a quality starter.
