Keon Keeley: Scouting Report

Pos: Defensive End
Team: Alabama
Class: 2023
Size

Keon Keeley has an elite frame for a defensive end prospect. He has the height, length and growth potential to be a prototypical defensive end. He has plenty of room to continue to add strength as he fills out. Keeley has the size and long arms to keep offensive linemen at bay.

Athleticism

Keeley is a good athlete, who has nimble feet and a fluidity that is rare in players his size. He gets off the ball quickly, showing an explosive first step. Keeley also has the agility to bend around the edge and the speed in pursuit to make plays from behind. He is a well rounded athlete who will be difficult to block with his blend of size and athleticism.

Pass Rushing Ability

Keeley’s size, length and get-off give him an inherent advantage against most blockers. He is the complete package and offensive linemen have to be nearly perfect to slow him down. Keeley can rush the passer with speed, has the power and length to bull rush effectively and also features a strong spin move. His use of a variety of pass rush moves combined with his size and speed advantages make him tough to pass protect against, particularly one on one.

Run Defense

Keeley’s physical traits make him a good run defender as well. He is strong enough to hold up at the point of attack and quick enough to shoot gaps and make plays in the backfield. Keeley does have a tendency to play higher than you would like to see, but that is a product of his size and dominance in high school, which should be fixable with coaching. He will only get better against the run as he packs on strength and continues to fill out his frame.

Scheme/Fit

Keeley appears to be a more natural fit as a traditional defensive end in a four man front, but has shown the ability to perform out of a two point stance on the edge. His length and athletic ability would allow him to be an edge rusher in odd front or he could grow into a down linemen if he keeps getting stronger. His ability to play multiple spots along the defensive front makes him a versatile player that could thrive in multiple schemes.

Projection

Keon Keeley is a prototypical defensive end who has the ideal blend of size and athletic ability to succeed at the position. He displays a variety of pass rush moves to keep blockers off balance. Keeley is a physical mismatch for most players and has an excellent motor. His tools give him a high ceiling at the next level where he will become one of the best defensive ends in college football.
