Donaven McCulley: Scouting Report

Donaven McCulley is a tall, lanky quarterback prospect with good athleticism. McCulley has good speed and elusiveness when running with the football, he is able to pick up large chunks of yardage when the play breaks down. He has the athletic ability to play a skill position if need be but should remain at quarterback. McCulley is a tall prospect who needs to add weight, but appears to have the frame to bulk up some in college. He should have no trouble scanning the field or throwing over the line from the pocket. He has a good arm and can throw the ball with velocity down field but also shows good touch when needed.

He is a fairly accurate passer, but can be inconsistent at times. McCulley needs to work on his footwork in the pocket and when throwing on the run to get more consistent accuracy and velocity. He also needs to keep the ball close to his body when on the move as he has a tendency to not tuck it away, which could lead to fumbles. He can throw from multiple arm slots but sometimes his release is a little long because of that. There is a good mold to work with and McCulley has good potential at the next level. Donaven McCulley will be a good college quarterback who is a true dual threat but needs to fix some mechanical flaws that could keep him from maximizing his potential.
