TJ Bollers: A Quick Look At What The Badgers Are Getting

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, TJ Bollers committed to Wisconsin, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

TJ Bollers is an excellent looking prospect who shows the traits necessary to be a productive edge defender in college. Bollers displays a great first step and high end raw athleticism for a line of scrimmage player. That athleticism is clear when reviewing his film as he plays TE for his high school squad (watch him steal the pitch for a score in the first play of the video above). Bollers is equally adept at shooting through gaps with a quick swim move and engaging blockers at the point of attack with his hands. He demonstrates the ability to disengage at the point of attack and find the ball carrier quickly. This is a prospect that has excellent change of direction skills for a player his size and is able to follow ball carriers attempting to elude him. There are times where Bollers fails to plays with leverage and stands upright. This does not prevent him from making against the current level of competition but will need to be corrected at the next level. Bollers is a very aggressive player that shoots through gaps and disrupts a ton of plays, however, his aggressiveness can cause him to misdiagnose the play and end up out of position. His most impressive trait is his execution and understanding of hand usage which is advanced for this level. Bollers already shows a swim move, a side swipe, a push and pull move, and a bull rush, all of which will improve with coaching. This is a high ceiling player that will develop into one of the best pass rushers in his class with a little more seasoning.
