WR Rankings: Xavier Worthy

Updated: 01/24/2022

With the season underway players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Xavier Worthy, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Texas wide receiver, Xavier Worthy won one of the star true freshmen of the 2021 season. He made a splash early in the season with a three touchdown performance against Texas Tech, and had an even bigger game in the loss against Oklahoma a couple weeks later. For the season, Worthy tallied 62 catches for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns. The true freshman is always a big play threat and was Texas’ leading receiver by a wide margin in 2021.

Worthy has the explosive play-making ability to strike from anywhere on the field. He has short area quickness to make defenders miss and create separation in small spaces. Worthy has side to side agility and uses an array of moves to shake defenders and get yards after the catch. He has the acceleration to get back up to speed in a few short steps, making it look like the defenders are running in mud as he pulls away. Worthy uses these tools to consistently make big plays for the Texas offense.

Worthy runs sharp routes, using his agility and acceleration to create separation. He is able to run the entire route tree effectively and understands how to use his speed to get defensive backs off balance. Worthy changes speeds deceptively, making it even more pronounced when he hits the jets to create a cushion. Worthy is blending savvy route running with his excellent athletic ability to get open regularly for his quarterback.

Xavier Worthy has the hands to make tough catches downfield. He is still a thinner receiver at 6’1″ 160 lbs but plays strong and will fight off defenders to make the catch and to get yards after the catch. Worthy can hurt the defense at all levels and is a threat to do damage on any play. He had a tremendous true freshman season and has established himself as one of the top receivers in college football.
