Star Performance: Chris Rodriguez

Kentucky‘s Chris Rodriguez has already established himself as one of the top running backs in the country. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry in 2020 and has been even better to start the 2020 season. The Wildcats rode their star running back to a hard fought conference win over Missouri 35 – 28 on Saturday.

Rodriguez started the game with a five yard touchdown catch and put Kentucky ahead 7 – 0. He then went to work on the ground, chewing up large chunks of yardage in the running game and moving the pile when finishing runs. Rodriguez did not just break a long run or two to pad his stats, he consistently picked up solid yardage pounding the Missouri defense and gaining first downs to keep the offense on the field.

Rodriguez ran with the vision, patience and power that makes him such a dangerous running back. He allowed the play to develop, found the hole and burst through it, then finished the run by delivering the blow to the defender. He ground out yardage and scored four touchdowns, wearing down the Missouri defense and keeping Kentucky in the driver’s seat all game. Kentucky led or was tied the entire game and once they got the lead late, they were able to count on their workhorse back to melt the game away for them.

Chris Rodriguez carried the ball 27 times for 206 yards and 3 touchdowns, also adding a five yard touchdown catch. The Wildcats were locked in a tight game and needed all four of those scores to hold off Missouri 35 – 28 on Saturday. The star running back was all that his team needed him to be on Saturday, carrying the load en route to a big win.
