Shardrach Banks: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Shadrach Banks is committed to Texas A&M, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Shadrach Banks is a powerful receiver who is built like a running back. He has average height, but a thick, powerful build that you expect to see from a running back. Looks can be deceiving, as Banks has proven he has the ball skills of a receiver and makes big plays downfield. He has the speed to play on the outside and threaten downfield, and the instincts and feel to find the holes in the coverage. Banks catches the ball well, then is able to pickup yardage after the catch with his running ability. He has some make-you-miss ability, but can also break tackles with his strength and power. Backs is a tough tackle for most defensive backs and is highly effective on screens and short passes where he can run after the catch.

Banks only played in five games a junior, and still appears to be raw as a receiver. He has all of the tools you would want to work with but will need to learn to run better routes. This should come with experience and coaching. Banks does need to be more explosive as he appears to take a second to get up to speed, but with development time we expect Banks to be a more twitchy athlete. Overall, Banks has the strength and instincts to be a match-up problem for the secondary. Shadrach Banks is a productive receiver who has a very high ceiling and will develop into an all conference type performer at the power five level.
