Sam Jackson: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Sam Jackson committed to Purdue, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Sam Jackson is an explosive athlete on the football field. He could easily play wide receiver but Purdue recruited him to play quarterback so that is where we will focus. Jackson has good arm strength and can stretch the field vertically. He makes strong throws with velocity underneath, from the pocket and on the run. Jackson is a fast, explosive athlete who runs away from defenders with ease. He has great quickness and is elusive in the open field. Jackson’s running ability will be a major asset at the next level.
Though he is a great athlete, Jackson is a smaller player for the quarterback position, there’s no way to coach size, but smaller players have succeeded at quarterback and Jackson has the skills to overcome this. He will need to add strength to take the punishment a running quarterback can take at times. His footwork and mechanics still need work and because of the inconsistencies here, his accuracy can be erratic. Jackson does a lot of improvisation at the high school level but will need to learn to read the defense and throw on time to be successful in college. Sam Jackson will be a dual threat at the quarterback position who scares defenses with his legs but needs to improve his passing ability to be a complete quarterback.
