Sam Huard: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. In late 2018, Sam Huard committed to Washington, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Sam Huard can make every throw imaginable, he has great mechanics and a quick release. He can throw the ball over 50 yards down field with an effortless motion. He has a great arm and can throw the ball all over the field, he has good touch on his deep balls, but plenty of zip on tight throws underneath. Huard has good footwork for a high school prospect and does a great job of throwing on balance. He is not a runner at the quarterback position but is not slow of foot either and does a good job of moving in and around the pocket.

Huard moves well and maintains his throwing mechanics while on the move. He plays with good recognition and has a good idea where he wants to go with the football and understands ball placement well. He uses his excellent accuracy and ball placement to complete passes to players that otherwise appear to be covered. Huard does not have prototypical size but is big enough to play the position well and would not qualify as small either. There are times where he trusts his talent too much and tries to complete a pass he shouldn’t, but we’re really nit-picking now. It is evident that Huard’s father was a quarterback as Sam has a great understanding of the quarterback position. Sam Huard has the ability to be a star at Washington and one of the very best quarterbacks in college football.
