Size
Rueben Owens has average height and a solid frame for a college running back. He is well put together and looks bigger on the field. He has room to continue to add strength and will be an every down back in college. Owens has the physical build and size to be a lead running back in college.
Athleticism
Owens has good speed in the open field, showing the ability to score on long runs. He has great burst and lateral agility, with the ability to start and stop or change directions with minimal wasted motion. Owens has good strength and balance to keep his feet after contact or on sudden changes in direction. He is a high end athlete who can excel in multiple ways.
Inside the Tackles
Owens has the patience to allow his runs to develop. He appears to have good vision, picking his holes well and finding open space in a crowded box. Owens has the power to fight off the contact that comes with running inside the box and the quickness to get through to the second level. He likes to bounce runs outside to take advantage of his speed, but is comfortable running between the tackles.
In Space
Owens excels when he has defenders one on one in space. He makes efficient cuts, sacrificing little speed to make defenders miss and keeping other defenders from getting in position to help make the play. His agility and start and stop ability make him a threat to make defenders miss and make big plays on the edge. Owens has excellent feet, making him almost impossible to tackle one on one in the open field.
Passing Game
Owens has shown the ability to be an effective receiver downfield. Most of that has come in seven on seven settings, but he has shown the ability to get open and make plays in the passing game in game settings as well. His athleticism makes him a mismatch in receiving situations.
Projection
Rueben Owens has the athletic traits to be a star running back at the collegiate level. He is a complete back who can perform in a variety of schemes and situations. Owens is a complete running back prospect who is likely to become one of the best runners in college football.
