California Golden BearsRecruit Scouting Reports

Mavin Anderson: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Mavin Anderson is committed to California, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Mavin Anderson is a fast receiver with big play potential. He has average height for a receiver but is a well built prospect who looks more like a running back than a receiver. His thick build is somewhat deceptive as Anderson shows good speed in the open field and the ability to gear up to speed quickly. Anderson catches the ball well and has the wheels to score from anywhere on the field. He missed time earlier in his career with injuries but put together a strong junior season. Anderson does a good job of getting good position against the coverage to create an easy throw for his quarterback.

Anderson’s strength allows him to be a physical blocker down field and also makes him tough to tackle in the secondary. He does not have as much success against press coverage as he does against off coverage but this could be a by-product of missed time and a lack of experience. He has good speed but will need to work to be more elusive after the catch so he can put that speed to work. Overall, Anderson shows the speed and strength to be a dangerous receiver on the perimeter or in the slot. Mavin Anderson will be a versatile weapon in the passing game who should succeed as a downfield threat at the power five level.
