LJ Johnson: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. LJ Johnson has committed to Texas A&M. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on LJ Johnson to give you a scouting report based on his film.
LJ Johnson is a well built runner with adequate height and a frame to get bigger at the next level. He displays a very good burst through the hole and has great speed to break long runs. His lateral mobility is above average, but Johnson’s stutter and go move allows him to maximize his athleticism. This is a running back with tremendous balance and better than expected power. He is not easy to bring down, head on or from the side, and routinely gets past would-be tacklers. If he adds additional muscle mass, he could develop into a very powerful runner.
Johnson has very good vision and rarely misses the hole. Often times he finds the smallest of creases and hits them for substantial gains. He is equally effective running the ball on inside and outside runs. His stiff arm is effective and allows him to gain extra yards in the open field. As a receiver Johnson shows some soft hands and enough natural pass catching ability to be effective in college. LJ Johnson is an excellent running back prospect who has a handful of impressive tools that should help him become an All-Conference level running back.
