Kyle McCord: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Last year, Kyle McCord committed to Ohio State, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Kyle McCord is an elite talent who can make every throw on the football field. He has good height and the frame to have a good build for the quarterback position. McCord has good mechanics and a quick release allowing him to utilize his physical skills well. He has excellent arm strength and accuracy and can fit passes into tight windows. Beyond that, McCord uses his awareness of what the defense is doing to throw players open who may not be open. He throws a good deep ball with accuracy, doing a good job of placing the ball over the inside or outside shoulder depending on the route or defensive positioning. McCord has the touch to drop passes into the openings in zone coverage, and the velocity to zip them into tight windows.

He has decent functional mobility in the pocket and does a good job of protecting the ball while on the move. McCord can throw on the run well from various platforms generating good velocity and accuracy whether moving to his left or right. McCord is not a great runner and is not going to be a big threat with his running ability. He does need to continue to progress with his pocket mobility as he looks to evade pressure and reset. The toolbox is full and there is very little not to like about his game. We expect McCord to be an elite college quarterback and one of the best in the country at his position.
