Kendrick Blackshire: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Kendrick Blackshire committed to Alabama, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.
Kendrick Blackshire missed his junior season because of a knee injury. His sophomore film shows a strong well built linebacker who makes plays in a variety of ways. Blackshire is a big, between the tackles linebacker who can hold up at the point of attack against offensive linemen. He does a good job of fighting through traffic to find the ball carrier. Blackshire has good instincts and read and react ability, which helps him find the football quickly and get in position to make the play. He has above average closing speed and tackles with force when he gets to the ball carrier. He has the strength and burst to rush the passer off the edge as well, which gives him some scheme versatility.
In pass coverage he shows the same good instincts and understands his responsibilities in the defensive scheme. He identifies plays in front of him well and comes down quickly to make the tackle. He needs to be more flexible in coverage to turn and run with quicker players. He has good speed for his size, but will need to continue to maintain his speed to be able to cover enough ground as a traditional linebacker. Overall Blackshire is a physical linebacker who shows decent mobility. Kendrick Blackshire will be a good player who could play inside linebacker or as an outside pass rusher depending on where his body takes him. In either case he is a capable starter at the power five level who has the physical maturity to make an immediate impact in college.
