Clinton Burton Jr: Scouting Report

Clinton Burton Jr is a good cornerback who is a playmaker in the secondary. He is excellent playing off-coverage and breaking on the football. Burton Jr. has great explosion out of his back pedal and breaks on the ball quickly and efficiently. He has average height and bulk at cornerback and can play bigger receivers on the outside. Burton has good long speed to run with receivers down field or across the field. He tracks the ball well downfield putting himself in good position to make plays on the ball. Burton has good ball skills and comes down with his share of interceptions.

Burton is a competitive player and is not afraid to take on blockers in run support. He is a willing hitter who does not shy away from contact. Burton needs to improve his hip flexibility and fluidity, which will help him mirror better receivers more efficiently. He also needs to get stronger to redirect receivers in press man coverage at the next level but does have the frame to add strength. Overall, Burton is an instinctual corner who is disruptive in the secondary. Clinton Burton Jr. is a good cornerback prospect who will be a playmaker in the defensive backfield at the power five level.
