Kaidon Salter: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Kaidon Salter to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Kaidon Salter is a well rounded high school quarterback who produces at a high level. Salter has adequate height to play quarterback and a thin build, but a strong lower half and some projection to add strength to his upper body. Salter shows toughness and playmaking ability on the field, finding ways to escape defenders and find open receivers down field. He has above average arm strength and can push the ball downfield. He throws a crisp accurate ball at times but is inconsistent with his mechanics which leads to inconsistencies in his accuracy. Nonetheless he has the tools and only needs to harness them.

Salter is a good runner who does not blow you away with his speed but is productive and crafty on the ground. He has enough speed to be a legitimate threat as a runner but uses his toughness, quickness and instincts to pick up more yardage than one might expect. He does a good job of escaping pressure and resetting to throw when possible. Salter shows the ability to make difficult throws while on the move, letting his instincts take over. He needs to work on his ability to read the defense and anticipate throws as he has a tendency to hold the ball too long. His release will need to be quicker and more efficient, which will help with his accuracy and consistency. Overall, Salter is a tough quarterback who can hurt a defense in multiple ways. Kaidon Salter has many of the traits college teams are looking for and with some seasoning he will be a power five starter at the next level.
