Justyn Martin: Scouting Report
Size
Justyn Martin has prototypical height for a quarterback. He has room to continue to fill out his frame, but is already starting to get stronger. Martin has the potential to be an imposing quarterback who will be tough to bring down. He has the size teams look for to be able to see the field and throw the ball over the defensive line without difficulty.
Release/Mechanics
Martin has a bit of a wind up in his release which you would like to see him clean up as he develops. He does have a good motion otherwise, and is consistent with his release. His footwork is inconsistent and sometimes not having a good base costs him power on his throws. These inconsistencies show up more when he in under pressure and on the move.
Arm
Martin has plenty of arm strength and can deliver the football with zip. He has the ability to drive the ball downfield and throws a good deep ball. Martin also has solid accuracy, showing the ability to hit his receivers in stride, particularly when his footwork is good. Martin shows his strong arm when throwing on the move as well.
Mobility
Martin displays good acceleration when escaping the pocket. He has a long stride and has some speed in the open field, allowing him to chew up ground with each step. Martin is not very sudden making moves in the open field, but covers a lot of ground with each step when changing directions making him difficult to get a grasp of.
Intangibles
Martin is a fighter, who will not quit on a play. He does a good job of breaking tackles and keeping his sense about him to find an open receiver as he escapes trouble. Martin will come off his first option if it’s not there but needs to be a little faster with his decision making.
Projection
Justyn Martin has a big arm and excellent size for the position. He is still a developing prospect but has a lot of tools to work with and should develop into a starter for a power five team in college.
