Julien Simon: A Quick Look at What the Trojans are Getting

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Julien Simon committed to USC, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Julien Simon is a good overall athlete who makes plays all over the field in high school. He has good speed and moves well for a linebacker. He has a strong build and is sturdy enough to play middle linebacker but quick enough to play outside as well. Simon has great instincts and recognition, he reacts well to the ball and makes the most of his athleticism. He has excellent ball skills in coverage and will be able to convert turnovers in the passing game. Simon has great closing speed, and closes well against the run and the quarterback. Like most athletic linebackers, Simon will need to get better at disengaging blockers as he is able to avoid the with his athleticism at the high school level. Simon has good speed but needs to maintain his speed and quickness as he gains weight. Julien Simon is a good linebacker prospect who is built for the modern game with his coverage skills, but has the size to be a middle linebacker. He should excel as a three down linebacker for the Trojans.
