Penn State Nittany LionsRecruit Scouting Reports

Jamari Buddin: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Recently, Jamari Buddin committed to Penn State, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Jamari Buddin is a versatile linebacker who can play inside and outside effectively. Buddin is a plus athlete at the linebacker position. He has good speed and covers a lot of ground on the football field. His good acceleration and burst is evident when he blitzes off the edge and when he explodes through gaps to get to the ball carrier. He also has the side to side agility to be an asset in pass coverage. Buddin has a good frame, he is strong but lean with the shoulders and length to carry more good weight. He plays with good strength now but should continue to get stronger in a college weight program.

Buddin displays good standup pass rushing attributes when he blitzes but also does a good job as a traditional linebacker flowing to the football. He finds his way through blockers efficiently and delivers a good hit when he gets to the ball carrier. Buddin needs to work on his coverage technique, especially in man coverage. He will need to continue to get bigger and put on good weight to handle bigger more athletic blockers in college. Overall, Buddin has the athleticism and versatility teams look for in a linebacker prospect. Jamari Buddin is a good prospect with a high ceiling, we expect he will at least be a quality power five starter in college.
