Jackson Arnold: Scouting Report
Size
Jackson Arnold is tall enough to be a successful college quarterback. He has a good frame and appears to be solidly built. He has room to continue to fill out and get stronger as he matures. Arnold may not have prototypical height for a quarterback, but he is certainly tall enough and has the frame to succeed at the next level.
Release/Mechanics
Arnold features a quick release that allows him to get the ball out quickly when he finds his receiver. His footwork is solid and will improve with college coaching. Arnold’s mechanics are excellent on the move, he has no problem throwing off platform and does a good job of keeping his legs underneath him and delivering good throws on the move.
Arm
Arnold has a good arm, showing the ability to deliver the football to all levels of the field. He throws the ball with good touch and accuracy making it easy for his receivers to make the catch. Arnold has the touch and accuracy to beat zone coverage. He does have a tendency to let the deep ball hang a bit too long which could be problematic against better defensive backs.
Mobility
Arnold shows the short area quickness needed to make defenders miss. He does a good job of using the defenders’ aggression and momentum against him to create a big play with his legs. Arnold has proven that he can be effective on designed run plays and when the play breaks down. While he is not a prolific runner, Arnold is an effective runner who defenses will have to account for.
Intangibles
Arnold plays high quality competition and shows the competitive nature needed to succeed. He is not rattled by pressure, showing the ability to escape the pocket and continue to look for receivers downfield. Arnold appears to go through his progressions and read the defense to find the open receiver. He displays an advanced understanding of passing concepts, which helps him find the right window to throw into.
Projection
Jackson Arnold has all of the tools to become an excellent college quarterback. He has a proven track record against good competition, a strong arm, quick release and good overall athletic ability. Arnold is an advanced quarterback prospect that will develop into an all conference type performer at the next level.
