LB Rankings: Harold Perkins Jr

As we review the LB rankings, players have had the opportunity to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Harold Perkins Jr, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

• The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
• Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
• Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
• We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

LSU linebacker, Harold Perkins Jr arrived at LSU as a highly touted recruit with great expectations. During his true freshman season, his play has only raised those expectations. He has been performing all season, but had a break-out game against Arkansas recording 4 sacks on the day. The talented freshman has been excellent this season, collecting 53 tackles with 8 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 2 pass break-ups, 2 fumbles forced, 1 interception and 12 QB Hurries through 10 games. Perkins has made a huge impact right away and is flashing star potential for the Tigers.

At 6’2″ 220 lbs, Perkins is an elite athlete. He has the speed to chase down offensive players from anywhere on the field. He can change directions well and closes on the football as well as any player in the country. Perkins plays with power in traffic, showing the strength needed to beat blockers that can manage to get their hands on him. His blend of speed, power and explosiveness is as good as there is in college football.

Perkins is a complete linebacker, who can make plays against the run or in coverage, but he excels as a blitzer. He times the snap well, getting a good jump on the play. Then his athleticism helps him to take advantage of that head start and make an efficient path to the quarterback. He already has some effective pass rush moves and closes quickly but under control. This makes him difficult to evade, helping him finish the play. With his athleticism and pass rush instincts, Perkins is nearly unstoppable when getting after the quarterback.

Harold Perkins Jr is an athletically gifted player who can do things most other players simply cannot. He is excellent in pursuit, shows good ball skills in coverage and is an elite pass rusher when he blitzes. He has become an impact defender as a true freshman and will only improve with experience. Perkins maybe a young player, but he has already proven he is one of the best linebackers in college football.
