Gunner Stockton: Scouting Report
Size
Gunner Stockton has adequate height for a quarterback, he is not tall but is tall enough. Stockton has a sturdy, well developed build that allows him to take hits and be a powerful runner. His height may not be a strength but size is not an area of concern for Stockton, as he can see the field well and is definitely thick enough to play in college.
Release/Mechanics
Stockton has a fairly efficient release that could use some tightening up but is quick enough as is. His footwork is good at times, but when under pressure he rushes his feet and loses his mechanics some. He does a good job of staying on balance to generate good power on his throws from the pocket or when throwing on the run.
Arm
Stockton has a very strong arm and can stretch the field vertically and sideline to sideline. He has the velocity to fit the ball in tight coverage and can find small windows in the defense and exploit them. Stockton has good accuracy and any issues here are usually a result of rushed footwork. Stockton has some touch on his deep ball, throwing a catchable ball receivers can run under.
Mobility
Stockton has good functional mobility in the pocket, showing the ability to evade rushers and escape before the pocket collapses. Stockton has some speed when he gets going, though he is not a very elusive or dynamic runner. Stockton drives his legs and runs with power to break tackles and gain yardage after contact. He is able to navigate the pocket well and reset to throw the ball when on the move.
Intangibles
Stockton is decisive with the football, makes good reads and delivers the ball on time. He is a competitive player who shows good leadership in a tough spot or when a teammate makes a mistake. He sometimes leaves the pocket sooner than he should and will need to learn to trust his protection.
Projection
Gunner Stockton, true to his name, is a gifted passer who will challenge the defense with his arm. He also has some running ability and a refuse to lose attitude. He has the tools and personality to be a great college quarterback and should develop into one of the best players in the country.
