Geno VanDeMark: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Geno VanDeMark to give you a scouting report based on his film.
Geno VanDeMark possesses an excellent frame for an offensive line prospect. He is well proportioned, tall, long, and carries little bad weight. There is still plenty of room for additional muscle and VanDeMark’s physical upside is unquestionable. As a run blocker, he shows excellent leg drive but needs to play with leverage more consistently. VanDeMark is a very nasty and tenacious blocker, but can lunge more than is ideal when looking to pancake players. A very good athlete that can execute combo blocks and get to the second level with ease.
In pass protection, VanDeMark does a great job of keeping his balance and shows some natural footwork in his drop steps. He flashes a very strong punch that alone can knock opposing pass rushers off-balance. VanDeMark does appear somewhat susceptible to quicker pass rushers that make a move inside (he is currently able to overpower them despite being out of position). There are plenty of tools to work with but VanDeMark will need to improve his technique to be more consistent as a pass protector. Geno VanDeMark is an excellent offensive line prospect with the tools to be a multi-year starting lineman for an elite program.
