Gavin Blackwell: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Gavin Blackwell is committed to North Carolina, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a scouting report based on his film.
Gavin Blackwell is quick, shifty receiver who finds ways to get open and make plays. He is not a big receiver and has a slim build but he is a quick, fluid athlete. Blackwell shows solid speed with good burst and change of direction skills that allow him to get open downfield. He is an advanced route runner who is able to find pockets in zone coverage, and create separation against man coverage. Blackwell does a good job of adjusting to the football and making the catch. He is a consistent threat in the passing game who has an understanding of where he needs to get to be successful.
After the catch, Blackwell has a good feel for the seams in the defense and is able to pick up good yardage. He has the acceleration and quickness to find the open spaces and make the most of his opportunities after the catch. Blackwell will need to be more elusive at the next level to make better defenders miss. He also needs to add strength to help him against better defenders in college. Overall, Blackwell has the awareness, quickness and savvy to be a threat out of the slot or as a flanker. Gavin Blackwell is an advanced receiver with good athleticism who has the ability to be a starter at the power five level in college.
