Duce Chestnut: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year as players commit to their school of choice we will review their film and give you a breakdown of what we see. Duce Chestnut has committed to Syracuse, today we will dive in and breakdown the tape to give you a quick scouting report based on his film.

Duce Chestnut is a physical corner who plays with good instincts. He has adequate height for the position and a good frame to continue to add weight. He is able to jam and re route receivers well throwing off the timing of the route. Chestnut displays good instincts and coverage and does a good job of finding the ball when it is thrown. He is a capable player in both man coverage and zone coverage and has the instincts to excel in both. Chestnut positions himself well to gain leverage when shadowing receivers.

In run support, Chestnut is a willing and capable tackler who does not hesitate to deliver the hit. He is strong enough to take on blockers on the perimeter and set the edge for the defense. Chestnut has good quickness and agility in coverage but needs to work on his top end speed as faster players have been able to get behind him at times. He has above average burst and acceleration but needs to work on his technique to get out of his backpedal quickly. Overall Chestnut has the physical traits to be a quality cornerback or safety in college. Duce Chestnut will develop into a good defensive back who with time will become a starter at the power five level.
