Deacon Hill: Scouting Report

Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Deacon Hill to give you a scouting report based on his film.

Deacon Hill is a big, strong quarterback with an excellent arm. He can throw the football as well as anyone in the country. He has the arm strength to throw the deep ball and to throw short and intermediate routes with velocity. Hill can fit passes into tight windows and complete passes to players who are still covered. Hill throws the ball with good accuracy and anticipation which helps him complete passes against quality defense. He has the ability to throw with touch and drop the pass in to his receiver when he needs to. He understands when to use his arm strength and when to take something off.

Hill has sound mechanics in the pocket and does a good job of keeping his feet underneath him when he throws. His release is quick and effortless, it looks like the ball just leaps out of his hand. Hill needs to work on maintaining his mechanics outside the pocket while on the move. Hill is not a scrambler but can run to escape pressure when he needs to. He is a big quarterback but needs to maintain mobility and flexibility. He has a great deal of faith in his arm, which is warranted, but needs to make good decisions when throwing into coverage at the next level. Overall, Hill has the tools needed to be an excellent quarterback. Deacon Hill is a strong quarterback prospects, who has the arm and size to be a star for a power five team.
