Behren Morton: Scouting Report
Recruiting is the life blood of a college football program. Every player added to the program is a new piece of the puzzle. It’s impossible to follow college football and ignore recruiting entirely. Throughout the year we will review the film of some of the top prospects and give you a breakdown of what we see. Today we will dive in and breakdown the tape on Behren Morton to give you a scouting report based on his film.
Behren Morton is a productive quarterback who can hurt a defense in a variety of ways. He is an accurate passer who throws a catchable ball to all levels of the field. He has a good arm and can drive the ball deep, or throw short passes with zip and velocity. Though he has a good arm, Morton understands when to throw the ball with touch and when to put some heat on it. Morton can throw from the pocket or on the move, he is comfortable throwing from different platforms and with a variety of arm angles. He scans the field well and is comfortable throwing over the middle of the field or towards the sideline.
Morton is a capable runner who can pick up yardage on the ground. He is not a breakaway threat or a very shifty runner, but he has enough mobility and speed to move the chains. He does a good job of feeling pressure and moving to open areas to reset and throw. Morton has average height for the quarterback position but will need to add weight to his frame as he matures. He has a longer release and needs to tighten up his mechanics to get rid of the football quickly. He will need to adjust to a significant jump in competition but has the tools to perform in college. Overall, Morton has good throwing ability and can pick apart a defense. Behren Morton throws a good ball and has the ability to be a college star as he develops.
